Smooth Cat Ride with Speed to Spare. Sister ship
Come aboard our deep sea fishing boat, the Glacier Bay Canyon Runner and discover the comfortable seating and rooming cockpit with space for multiple bean bags. High sides and a well-placed bow rails mean the entire family can enjoy a secure, comfortable ride. Now that's very nice and makes for a much more comfortable day, but first and foremost, our boat is a fishing boat with padded bolsters fore and aft. nice high gunwales for stability, loads of rod storage and huge, I mean monster huge, fish boxes that can store upwards of 1,000 lbs which is great when we are running commercial and catch your own commercial trips.
Boating Magazine performed what appears to be the most extensive scientific research measuring the ride of a catamaran versus a deep vee hull. This research took over a years and was performed with multiple test, side by side comparison and very sophisticated technical equipment. What their research and date revealed is " For example, if you have to run far and fast to get to an offshore fishing ground, the cat is a better choice. " Perhaps you're a techy and would like to check the article for your self. https://www.boatingmag.com/catamaran-versus-deep-v-monohull/ . And, because of its pure displacement hull design, the Glacier Bay is the BEST riding cat. We have fished in custom cats, World Cats, Pro Cats and other catamaran style boats, but the Glacier Bay Canyon Runner is by far the smoothest riding, driest, most comfortable offshore fishing boat. That’s because the Glacier Bay hulls are pure displacement hulls. Displacement cats, unlike deep vees and many of the other catamaran hulls that are planning hulls and must ride on the waters surface to reach cruise speed, slice through the water and waves rather than bouncing on the tops. So, while the center of a displacement cat hull is riding on a cushion of air, the sponson slice through the water with dampened vertical motion and creating a ride that: 1. Has far less bounce and almost never a slap. 2. Produces almost zero sea spray off the bow which eliminates the wet spray you will probably get in other boats. 3. A faster ride on an average day in our area because, although the GB Canyon Runners top speed is over 40 mph, our Canyon Runner routinely runs 2 – 3 feet chop at 22 to 25 mph while planning hulls slug along in the mid-teens and through spray at ever crest.
The Canyon Runner’s ride is fantastic but this boat, with seating for 6 passengers; a large bow and stern cockpit and wide access at the console, provide plenty of room for passengers while in route or fishing. And, unlike boats with deep vee style hulls, catamarans are much more stable at rest with far less roll.
For years the Canyon Runner’s dependability and safety have been proven over and over. In 1995 it was a Glacier Bay Canyon Runner that won the Bermuda Challenge and became the first ever outboard powered vessel to make the 728 mile non-stop run from Norfolk, VA to Bermuda while averaging over 20 mph. That’s 728 miles across the open Atlantic Ocean. Then, in 1998, a pair of Canyon Runners made the 1,328 mile run from Oahu, HI to Midway Island while, at one point, encountering 10 ft seas in the open Pacific Ocean. On that run the Canyon Runner won the Pacific Challenge.
While your deep sea fishing trip with us will range from several to perhaps 30 miles offshore, it is comforting to know that your in a Canyon Runner. The boat that has run over 1,300 miles across the open Pacific Ocean.
